With reference to the last paragraph of my predecessor's despatch No.215 of July 27th, 1898, I have the honour to forward for your information the copy of a Report by the Medical Officer of Health with reference to the annual Sanitary Report of 1898, containing remarks on the general sanitary condition of such existing houses in the city of Victoria as have been reported as unfit for human habitation, also on the question of open spaces where such are absolutely necessary.

June, 1899.

2. I also enclose copy of a Minute by the Principal Civil Medical Officer containing a report of the steps taken by the Sanitary Board to prevent the continued occupation of dwellings unfit for human habitation, and to ameliorate the present overcrowded state of part of the city.
